Global warming is changing the habitat of the polar bear. In a desperate attempt to keep cool, Pete's bear sits in a freezer, with fridge magnets that spell out the problem. The freezer also features a "dad" drawing, a favourite of Peter's created by his daughter Millie when she was three. The IUCN's Red List is portrayed on the lid. This list shows the conservation status of around 45,000 species: EX = Extinct, EW= Extinct in the Wild, CR= Critically Endangered, EN= Endangered, VU= Vulnerable, NT = Near Threatened and LC = Least Concern. Also inscribed is the Inuit word for polar bear, "Nanook". Other secrets include "Toonie", the name of the Canadian $2 coin that features a polar bear, and "Peppy", the mascot for the U.K. manufacturer of Fox's Glacier Mints, a favourite of Peter's during his childhood. Open the lid to reveal Walt Disney. Peter thought that Walt was cryogenically frozen but learned in his research that this was a popular myth. "Cold Comfort" is created in an edition of 250, with an additional 75 special variations for HK House of Lords dealer Fin-Alley Gifts.
Although Harmony Kingdom is still manufactured at Wimberley Mills near Stroud in Gloucestershire, since Martin Perry, the founder retired in August 2005, marketing and shipping of the pieces is done from the USA office at Harmony Ball Company in Ohio. This means that we have to consolidate our orders before having them shipped to us. We are currently taking deliveries about every 6 weeks and so there may be a delay with your order if the piece is not already in stock. We will advise by email. Hope this doesn't cause a problem.
